Coordinated by Missouri "Show-Me-Select" Replacement Heifers, Inc.,
in cooperation with University Extension, Commercial Agriculture Program,
MU College of Veterinary Medicine, The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association
and the Missouri Department of Agriculture/USDA. All heifers in the sale
met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition
and weight. They have also undergone a comprehensive health program, and were
guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls. Projected calving dates were given for
all lots with all heifers expected to calve from September 1 thru the first
week of November. The offering was screened for blemishes, muscle, frame, body
condition score (BCS), and disposition by a screening committee, consisting of
official graders from the Missouri Dept of Agriculture/USDA, then sorted into
lots according to calving dates and similar body types where permissible. There
were 27 percent of the heifers artificially bred, 67 percent natural bred and
06 percent mixed. The quality and condition of the bulk of the offering was
good, which was consigned by 7 area producers and purchased by 20 different
buyers. The 47 lots averaged 1044 lbs and sold for a dollar average of l245.00
per head. Demand for the most part moderate, however, tailing off somewhat
toward the end. Yet only light to moderate on some of the better exotic-
crosses, as well as some of the plainer 850-1050 weight heifers and some of
those meeting minimal flesh conditions.
Replacement Bred Heifers: Large 1 1030-1230 lbs fairly fancy and uniform
1225.00-1500.00 per head. Large 1-2 1000-1180 lbs 1050.00-1350.00, set of
blk/baldies 1115 lbs 1425.00. Large 2 940-1110 lbs 975.00-1275.00, pkg AI
blks 1020 lbs 1300.00. Medium and Large 1-2 850-990 lbs 975.00-1275.00.
