Southwest Missouri Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Sale

Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Association in cooperation
with University Extension, Commercial Agriculture Program, MU College
of Veterinary Medicine, The Missouri Cattlemen's Association and the
Missouri Department of Agriculture/USDA.
All heifers in the sale have met minimum standards for reproductive
soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight. They have also under-
gone a comprehensive health program, and were guaranteed bred to easy
calving bulls. Several were synchronized and artificially bred. Projected
calving dates were given for all lots with all heifers expected to calve
from January thru April 30. The offering was screened for blemishes, muscle,
frame, body condition score (BCS), and disposition by a screening committee,
consisting of official graders from the Missouri Dept of Agriculture and
USDA, then sorted into lots according to calving dates and similar body
types. There were 16 percent of the heifers artificially bred, 70 percent
naturally bred and 14 percent in lots of mixed natural and AI. The quality
and condition of the bulk of the offering was very good. There was a capacity
crowd on hand to observe and bid on the heifers this evening. Dry weather
across the area this summer created shortages of forage for many producers
which seemed to impact the price buyers were willing to pay for these
heifers. Demand was moderate. Sale average for the 309 lots was 1222.00
dollars per head.
Replacement Bred Heifers: Large 1 1148-1245 lbs 3rd stage 1300.00-
1475.00 per head. Large 1-2 1162-1231 lbs mostly 3rd stage 1275.00-1375.00
per head. Medium and Large 1 1052-1144 lbs 2nd and 3rd 1250.00-1450.00, lot
Red Angus Simmental cross 1010 lbs 3rd stage 1575.00. Medium and Large 1-2
998-1128 lbs 2nd and 3rd stage 1050.00-1275.00, several lots black white face
1077-1084 lbs 1325.00-1425.00, lot Registered Angus 1131 lbs 1325.00. Large 2
1178-1300 lbs 2nd and 3rd stage 1075.00-1300.00. Medium and Large 2 917-1130
lbs 2nd and 3rd stage 1000.00-1175.00. Medium 1 948-990 lbs 3rd stage 1100.00
