TO: Prospective Buyers and Guests: Welcome to the eighth Southeast Missouri Show-Me-Select Spring Calving Replacement Heifer Sale. The sixth Southeast Fall Calving Sale was held in May and it was a huge success with heifers averaging $1515. The last four sales have averaged $1260 on 1180 heifers. The preg checks were started in late June and the open heifers from some of these herds were placed on feed and have already gone to market as finished cattle. They have averaged right at $1050 at U.S. Premium Beef. The 195 heifers in this sale were started from 975 heifers and I have individually sifted and sorted all except for seven heifers. The breeding work is already done and some will start calving in 2 months. Guaranteed bred heifers, and not having to feed and take care of the heifer that did not breed is worth about $250 - $300 per heifer to you. Remember, those heifers are guaranteed bred for 30 days after you buy them. Contact the consignor before 30 days if you suspect one is open. The genetics on most of these heifers is excellent with 6-7 generations of stacked pedigrees in several of the herds. Also some have been sending cattle to U.S. Premium Beef for processing and have carcass data on steer mates to the heifers. There are some that had a $238 per head premium on steers. If you as producers are wanting to develop a herd, 20 years of selections are already done on some of the consignments. There are 151 black, 25 black white face, 1 white and 15 red or RWF heifers in the sale. There are 51 Purebred Angus with 6 that are registered in the sale; also, there are 6 Purebred Herefords that can be registered in the sale. If you want A.I. lots there are many all A.I. lots and there are 113 heifers pregnancy checked A.I. bred. Most of the AI heifers were synchronized with CIDR's and given Lutalyse for estrus synchronization. There are leading A.I. sires represented with 10 or more bred to 3 different bulls. Consignors are listed in alphabetical order so the sale order will be different. The catalog has footnotes for your use. I have also included accuracy on the EPD's and also Carcass and Scrotal EPD's on A.I. sires. Remember, the higher the accuracy towards .90 or above the more reliable the data is in selection. Thanks for attending the Sale, or just studying the catalog. If you have questions feel free to call me at 573-243-3581 or call the consignor at the number listed. Sincerely,
Roger Eakins
