Missouri Sho-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale for 12/11/2004

   Coordinated by University of Missouri Extension, University of
Missouri Commercial Agriculture Program, MU College of Veterinary
Medicine, Missouri Cattlemen's Association and Missouri Department
of Agriculture.  All heifers having met minimum standards for
reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight.
The heifers had also undergone a comprehensive health program and
were guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls, some being artificially
bred.  All heifers are expected to calve from latter part of January
thru April 2005 with projected calving dates given for each lot.
Offering was made-up predominately of blks/blk baldies with balance
primarily Red-Angus, Charolais and Gelbvieh crosses.  The supply of
mostly Large 1-2's was screened, graded and body condition scored
(BCS) by Official MO Dept of Agriculture/USDA Graders. A capacity
crowd filled the sales arena and witnessed a record sales average
for the South Central Sho-Me Select Program.  The 70 lots averaged
1042 lbs and sold for a dollar average of $1,384.00 per head.
Demand for the most part excellent, with lesser demand noted on a
few consignments of plainer quality and those meeting minimal BCS.

   Bred Heifers: Mostly Large 1-2  950-1350 lbs 1300.00-1550.00 per
head, near 50 head fairly fancy and uniform lots 1060-1200 lbs (with
BCS mostly 6-7) 1400.00-1750.00.  Medium and Large 1 to mostly 2  800-
1040 lbs (several minimal BCS 5-6) 1000.00-1275.00 per head, small
Pkg 975.00.
