Southwest Missouri Replacement Heifer Sale Show-Me-Select

in conjunction with University Extension, The Commercial Agriculture
Program, the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, The Missouri Cattle-
men's Association and the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
Requirements for all heifers: calfhood vaccinated
complete vaccination program
treated internal-external parasites
polled or dehorned
minimum weight and body condition
pelvic and repro tract evaluation
screened for blemishes
bred to low birth epd bulls
11 consignors offered 204 head of bred heifers in 62 lots. The quality
and condition of the bulk of the offering was outstanding. 40 percent
of the heifers were A.I. bred with 60 percent natural service with no
difference in the sale price average.
Supply consisted of 204 bred heifers, average weight 1039 lbs, with a
sale average of $1397.00. Prices ranged from $1100.00 to $1550.00 with
a package registered Angus at $1700.00. Heifers were due to calve from
late January through mid April. A capacity crowd was on hand with
standing room only. Auctioneer Jackie Moore said the bidding was very
active and most lots sold in a narrow range from $1275 to $1400.
50 percent of the offering were black colored Medium and Large 1-2 with
a weight range of 888-1112 lbs and prices from $1250 to $1550 with four
registered Angus at $1700.
25 percent of the heifers were Large 1 and black or red colored. Weights
ranged from 932 to 1296 lbs and sold from $1100 to $1475 with a package
of Simmental Red Angus crosses at $1675.
Medium 1-2 were all black colored and weighed from 870 to 1090 lbs and
sold from $1275 to $1400.
Few Large 1-2 and Large 2 weighed from 993 to 1285 lbs and sold from
$1300 to $1400.
