Southwest Missouri Replacement Heifer Sale Show-Me-Select
Coordinated by Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Association
in conjunction with University Extension, The Commercial Agriculture
Program, the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, The Missouri Cattle-
men's Association and the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
Requirements for all heifers: calfhood vaccinated
complete vaccination program
treated internal-external parasites
polled or dehorned
minimum weight and body condition
pelvic and repro tract evaluation
screened for blemishes
bred to low birth epd bulls
12 consignors offered 256 head of bred heifers in 67 lots. The quality
and condition of the bulk of the offering was outstanding. A lot of
data was available on the breeding of the heifers with several lots
fetal sexed and sold in groups carrying either bull or heifer calves.
Supply consisted of 256 bred heifers, average weight 1074 lbs, with a
sale average of $1414.00. Prices ranged from $1000.00 to $1800.00 with
very few selling under $1250. These heifers were bred to calve between
August 19 and November 14 with most due in September and October.
17 all A.I. bred lots averaged $1520 with 50 natural and mixed A.I. and
natural lots averaging about $1350. 75 percent of the offering were
black colored
Medium and Large 1-2 with a weight range of 950-1233 lbs and prices from
$1150.00 to $1800.00.
Large 1 weighed from 1030 to 1340 lbs and sold from $1100.00 to $1550.00.
Large 1-2 and Large 2 weighed from 990 to 1260 lbs and sold from
$1000.00 to $1500.00.
Few Medium and Large 2 weighed from 872 to 1050 lbs and sold from
$1050.00 to $1300.00.
