Southeast Missouri "Show-Me-Select" Heifer Sale

These are Angus cross heifers with birth dates from 8-20-02 to 11-22-02. Exact dates are available.

Sixteen (16) are A.I. bred to Bon View New Design 878, who lead the Angus breed in number of progeny registered in 2003. He has outstanding EPD's for both growth and carcass, with an UltraSound Rib Eye Area EPD of +.58. All heifers that are called A.I. bred were pregnancy checked safe to the A.I. date, but are pasture exposed to the Natural Service Sire.

We are marketing our finished cattle through US Premium Beef with 85% of them grading Prime and Choice, 23% Certified Angus Beef and Farmland Angus Beef. Harvested at 14 to 15 months of age.

All of these heifers are black and bred to Angus bulls. The cows these heifers are out of are Angus cross cows and are black. There is some influence in the genetics by Gelveih, Charolais, and Simmental from previous crossbreeding. The heifers will make excellent commercial cows, because of this hybrid vigor.

This select group of females is from the heart of the Circle A Ranch commercial herd. Known for total growth and carcass performance, all females have EPD's and Circle A Ranch is the only program in the nation to possess those credentials.

Five of the Simmental heifers are registered and five are out of CCR Sure Trade (CCR Ameritrade's full brother and the Denver Champion). These five registered Simmentals have average 205 day weights of 654 lbs.

These heifers were A.I. bred to top calving ease and carcass bulls SS Traveler 6807 T510 & Bar Ext Traveler 205. Six of the seven heifers in the sale we are consigning are A.I. bred. The Angus heifer is a registered Angus heifer our of B & M Traveler 449.

In this group of purebred black Angus heifers we are again offering several half sisters bred from excellent cows. The heifers are attractive, structurally correct and all should have good udders. They were synchronized and A.I. bred to either Brooks EXT 792 or Basin Rainmaker 747L. Both are curve benders with negative birth EPDs and yearling weights in the top 10% of the breed. The natural service sire was ACF New Design 1203 an excellent carcass sire who retains strong milk and growth EPDs.

Hopewell Farms has received Gold Pen Awards in both Missouri Feedouts that they have participated in. The steers we have on test in the current feedout are leading the gain for the Northeast Region. These heifers are sired by some very top Angus bulls in the breed, including SAF Connection, SAF Directive, Butchs Maximum 3130, SAF 3130 Maximum 9030, SAF 315 Trend 7161 and SAF Focus J30. The A.I. sires are Butchs Maximum 3130 the 14th highest marbling bull of all proven sires in the Angus breed. The other A.I. sire is SAF Focus J30 one of the top calving ease sires yet still has a +83 yearling weight and is in the top 20% of the breed for marbling. The natural service sires are SAF Focus J25 (J30's full brother) SAF HI Choice 1137 and MKBA Banker H47 K2. The steer mates to these heifers graded 17% prime, 82 % choice, with 63% being average choice or better and only 1% select (one steer). The average premium per head was $121.6 at USPB. These heifers are bred to produce on grass, in the feedlot and in the cooler.

These heifers are Angus, Charolais and Charolais Simmental Cross. There are two black heifers A.I. sired by New Design, three by a TC Stockman Son. TCS Mac sires the four Charolais. The A.I. heifers are bred to Decatur 55A which is a tremendous calving ease, top 3% BW and excels for growth and marbling with a +21 on marbling. The natural service sire also has excellent EPD's.

We finished our other steer and heifer mates from these cattle and sold at Farmland. They graded 40% Prime and CAB and 98% Choice.

The A.I. sire is SAF Focus J30, a calving ease bull with growth and carcass merit. The Natural Service Sire is a son of 3130 purchased from Sydenstricker Genetics and has great EPD's including the Marbling EPD in the top 1% of the breed.
