Missouri Sho-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale 12/13/2003

Coordinated by University of Missouri Extension, University of
Missouri Commercial Agriculture Program, MU College of Veterinary
Medicine, Missouri Cattlemen's Association and Missouri Department
of Agriculture. All heifers having met minimum standards for
reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight.
They had also undergone a comprehensive health program, and were
guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls, many being artificially bred.
All heifers are expected to calve from the latter part of January
thru April 2003 with projected calving dates given for each lot.
Offering consisted approximately of 60 percent blks/blk baldies,
with remainder predominately Red Angus and Red Angus, Charolais
and Gelbvieh crosses. The supply of mostly Large 1-2’s was screened,
graded, body condition scored (BCS) by Official MO Dept of Agriculture
/USDA Graders, then sorted into lots according to calving dates
and body type and color similarity where permissible. Sale average
price of the 126 lots was 1155.00 dollars per head which compares with
972.00 a year ago and 913.00 two years ago. Of the 125 lots, 29 lots
were A-I bred, 87 naturals and 9 lots mixed. Demand for the most
part excellent, but faded quite noticeably down the stretch.
Bred Heifers: Medium to mostly Large 1-2 890-1300 lbs 1000.00-
1350.00 per head, although there were 9 lots totaling 15 head weighing
870-1140 lbs 900.00-975.00, couple indiv at 875.00.
