in conjunction with University Extension, The Commercial Agriculture
Program, the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, The Missouri Cattle-
men's Association and the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
Requirements for all heifers: calfhood vaccinated
complete vaccination program
treated internal-external parasites
polled or dehorned
minimum weight and body condition
pelvic and repro tract evaluation
screened for blemishes
bred to low birth epd bulls
Supply consisted of 364 bred heifers, average weight 1014 lbs, with a
sale average of $1073.00. Prices ranged from $850.00 to $1550.00. These
heifers were bred to calve between January and May with 39 percent A.I.
bred and 61 percent carried natural service.
Of the 364 head selling, 70 percent were black colored cattle, either
purebred Angus or Angus crosses. 30 percent were other breed crosses
including Red Angus, Charolais, Limousin, Simmental and Gelbvieh. Actual
sale weights were from 840 to 1300 lbs, mostly in the 950 to 1150 lb range.
33 all AI bred lots totaling 126 head had an average weight of 1080 lbs with
an average price of 1134.00. 64 all Natural bred lots totaling 223 head had
an average weight of 973 lbs with an average price of 1037.00. Mixed AI and
Natural bred lots totaled 15 head with average weight of 1068 lbs with an
average price of 1088.00.
Medium and Large 1 Angus and Angus crosses, (all black color) A. I. service
with weights from 1050 to 1300 lbs sold from 1050.00 to 1325.00. Natural
service weighed from 1120 to 1280 lbs sold from 1100.00 to 1300.00.
Medium and Large 1-2 Angus and Angus crosses, (all black color) A.I. service
with weights from 910 to 1185 lbs sold from 900.00 to 1300.00. Natural
service weighed from 930 to 1180 lbs and sold from 900.00 to 1250.00.
Medium and Large 1 and 1-2 Other breed crosses, both A. I. and Natural
service with weights from 950 to 1250 lbs sold from 950.00 to 1150.00. Few
purebred Gelbvieh weighing from 1050 to 1260 lbs sold from 1200.00 to 1550.00.
Medium 1 and 1-2 Mostly Red Angus crosses, Natural service with weights from
788 to 982 lbs sold from 850.00 to 1050.00.
