Southeast Missouri "Show-Me-Select" Heifer Sale

These are Angus cross heifers with birth dates from 8-23 to 10-11-01. Exact dates are available.

Thirteen (13) are A.I. bred to Bon View New Design 878, one of the most popular bulls in the Angus breed. He has outstanding EPD's for both growth and carcass, with an UltraSound Rib Eye Area EPD of +.58. All heifers that are called A.I. bred were pregnancy checked safe to the A.I. date, but are pasture exposed to the Natural Service Sire.

We are marketing our finished cattle through US Premium Beef with 85% of them grading Prime and Choice, 23% Certified Angus Beef and Farmland Angus Beef. Harvested at 14 to 15 months of age.

These heifers are all Angus sired and 7 are out of Show-Me-Select Heifers purchased in the May 2001 Sale. 2 are sired by SAF Banker, 4 by a son of Basin Max, 1 by a SAF Focus Son, and 4 by the son of Bando 598 that I have used to breed heifers for my consignments. All of these heifers have excellent carcass and growth traits and the Show Me Select born heifers were purchased from Mike Kasten and Champ Goodwood Farms. The heifers are A.I. bred to SAF Connection a leading sire at Syndenstricker and the Natural to our new bull PVF Focus 0176. We have been selling in the Northeast Show-Me-Select Spring Calving Sale since the beginning in 1997, and have consistently been towards the top. The A.I. bred heifers are bred to BAR Ext Traveler 205 that has been used extensively throughout the state in the Show Me Select Program.

The natural bred are out of a son of TC Advantage purchased in the State Tested Bull Sale.

Most of these heifers are A.I. sired by SAF Strategy, SAF Bulls Eye, SAF Focus J30, Millcreek Diversity 315, SAF 315 Trend 7161, SAF Choice Plus 6314 and other top A.I. and natural sires. This is a very functional set of heifers raised on fescue and bred to work on pasture in the feedlot and the cooler. The steer mates to these heifers were entered in the best of the breed contest and graded 98.8% choice or better with 50.6% achieving a CAB rating. These heifers were Ultrasound pregnancy checked to verify A.I. conceptions.

As a first time seller for the Show-Me-Select Heifer Sale, we want to provide background information on our operation. We have an 80 cow, cow/calf operation with the majority calving in the spring. The Angus base cross bred cows are from Angus, Limousin and Amerifax bulls. We keep our own replacement heifers, sell show steers, sell replacement heifers and finish cattle which we market to local processors.

The Amerifax sire to the 5 heifers is also sire to ¼ of our foundation cows and many blue ribbon steers. The Amerifax breed is 5/8 Angus and 3/8 Beef Friesion, Amerifax are known for their maternal traits, rapid growth, carcass value and good disposition.

The heifers have been synchronized and natural bred to Circle A New Design 1103, a thick, well balanced son of New Design 036. Birthdates on the heifers range from 8-8 to 10-9-01. Individual birthdates are available. The heifers were pregnancy checked on 3-17-03, all safe with calf for 80-90 days on that date.
