Missouri Sho-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale 12/14/2002

Missouri Cattlemen's Association and Missouri Department of Agriculture.
All heifers having met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic
size, body condition and weight. They had also undergone a comprehensive
health program, and were guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls, many being
artificially bred. Majority of the heifers sold are expected to calve
from February thru April 2003 with projected calving dates given for
each lot of heifers. Offering consisted of 77 percent blks and blk baldies
and the remaining 23 percent basically made up of Red Angus, Hereford,
Gelbvieh, Charolais, Limousin, Simmental and a few Brangus crosses.
Supply Medium to mostly Large 1 to mostly 2’s. Demand for the most part
excellent. The offering was screened, graded, body condition scored (BCS)
by Official MO Dept of Agriculture/USDA Graders, then sorted into lots
according to calving dates and body type similarity where permissible.
Sale average price of the 90 lots was 972.00 dollars per head which
compares to 913.00 a year ago. There were 39 lots 101 head AI bred, 46
lots 114 head of natural bred and 5 lots 13 head mixed. A year earlier
there were 28 lots AI bred, 41 lots natural bred and 1 lot mixed. A large
number of buyers, potential buyers and spectators came out in the gorgeous
weather and filled the sales arena as heifers were sold to 25 different
buyers with the largest number (49 head) purchased by an Oklahoma buyer.
Bred Heifers: Large 1-2 Blk/blk baldies 1100-1300 lbs 980.00-1110.00
per head. Medium to mostly Large 1-2 900-1100 lbs 900.00-1010.00. A few
(6 head) Medium and Large 1 to mostly 2 800-1185 lbs 800-875.00. Other
breeds offered Large 1-2 960-1280 lbs 875.00-990.00 per head, with a
set 7 head Limousin-Red-Angus cross 1064 lbs 1000.00. A few sales
(7 head of singles and doubles) some pressing the minimum of BCS require-
ments 955-1080 lbs 775.00-850.00.
