Coordinated by Southeast Missouri Cattlemen's Association in conjuction
with University Extension, Commercial Agriculture Program, the College of
Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, the College of Veterinary
Medicine, the Missouri Cattlemen Association, and the Missouri Dept of
Agriculture.
All heifers have undergone a comprehensive health program, and are
guaranteed bred. Approximately 56 percent were bred artificially to leading
calving ease bulls in their respective breeds. Heifer were bred to calve
between September 1 and November 28, 2002. Offering was primarily black and
black white face, approximately 95 percent. Heifers were graded and sorted
into uniform lots according to projected calving dates and body type
similarity.
Requirements for all heifers: calf hood vacinated, complete vaccination
program, treated internal-external parasites, polled or dehorned, minimun
weight and body condition, pelvic and reproductive tract evaluation,
sceened for blemishes.
Supply consisted of 200 bred heifers, in 66 lots selling to 22
different buyers, average weight 1000 lbs, with an sale average $1118.00.
Bred heifers (average weights) (price per head)
A. I. Bred heifers: 101 head, avg wt 1013 lbs, avg price 1183.00;
Large 1, $1200.00-1350.00; Medium and Large 1, 1125.00-1300.00; Medium
and Large 1-2, 775.00-1025.00.
Natural bred heifers: 78 head, avg wt 979 lbs, ave price 1056.00;
Medium and large 1, 1125.00-1275.00; Medium and Large 1-2, 675.00-1000.00.
Natural and A.I. bred heifers in same lot: 21 head, avg wt 1016 lbs,
ave price 1033.00; Large 1-2, 950.00-1250.00; Medium and Large 1-2 850.00
