Missouri Sho-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale 12/07/01

Coordinated by Univesity of Missouri Extension, University of Missouri
Commercial Agriculture Program, MU College of Veterinary Medicine,
Missouri Cattlemen's Association and Missouri Department of Agriculture.
All heifers had met minumum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic
size, body condition and weight. They had also undergone a comprehensive
health program, and were guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls. Some were
artificially bred. Majority of the heifers sold are expected to calve
from Febuary thru mid April 2002 with projected calving dates given for
each lot of heifers. Offering consisted of mainly Blk Angus/Hereford,
Angus/Gelbvieh, Red Angus and Red Angus crosses which were graded, body
condition scored (BCS) by Offical MO Dept of Agriculture Graders, then
sorted into uniform lots according to calving dates and body type
similarity.
Sale Average for bred heifers: 80 lots average price $913.00 per head,
51 lots natural bred, 28 lots AI bred and 1 lot mixed. Top selling lot
was a pen of 5 head Registered Red Angus 1064 lbs $1,100.00 per head.
Bred Heifers: Medium and Large 1-2 950-1250 lbs 875.00-1000.00 per
head, 11 head of a more select quality Angus/Hereford and Angus/Gelbvieh
cross 1040.00-1070.00, with a set of Registered Red Angus 1100.00.
Their were 36 head in the sale of either lesser quality and muscle
thickness, smaller frame size, minimal BCS and a hand full exercising
a rather snakey disposition weighing 925-1100 lbs 800.00-860.00 per head.
