Southeast Missouri Show-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale

   Coordinated by Southeast Missouri Beef Improvement Association in
conjunction with University Extension; the Commercial Agriculture Program;
the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; the College of
Veterinary Medicine; the Missouri Cattlemens Association and the Missouri
Dept of Agriculture.

   Heifers were of known sires. They had also undergone a comprehensive
health program, and are guaranteed bred. Many were bred artificially to
leading calving ease bulls in their respective breeds. Heifers were bred
to calve between February 1, 2001 and Aril 15, 2001. Offering was primarily
black and black white face (80%). Heifers were graded and sorted into
uniform lots according to projected calving dates and body type similarity.

     Requirements for all heifers: calf hood vaccinated, complete
vaccination program, treated internal-external parasites, polled or
dehorned, minimum weight and body condition, pelvic and reproductive tract 
evaluation, screened for blemishes.
 
    Supply consisted of 223 bred heifers, in 73 lots selling to 36 different
buyers, average weight 1029 lbs, with a sale average of $1085.00.

     Bred heifers: Medium and Large 1  (actual weights)

     A.I. bred heifers: 110 head, 911-1085 lbs, 825.00-1250.00

     Natural bred heifers: 68 head, 908-1085 lbs , 725.00-1250.00

     Natural and A.I. bred heifers in same lot: 45 head, 937-1188 lbs,
900.00-1450.00
