Anthracnose (fungus) Twig canker. Leaves above canker turn pale green, wilt, shrivel and cling to stem. Refer to the PDC Fact Sheet "Leaf Spot Diseases of Shade Trees and Ornamentals" for more information. Remove and destroy fallen leaves. If serious, use thiophanate-methyl. Make first application at bud breakand the second 10 to 14 days later. Under wet conditions, apply a third spray 10 to 14 days later.

Thrips (insect) Hedge from a distance may appear dull and dry. Leaves are silvery with dark flecks. Primarily an aethetic problem on vigorously growing shrubs. If control is necessary to maintain appearance, carbaryl, imidacloprid, and cyfluthrin are labeled for control.
