Leaf scorch, winter injury of evergreen species (nonparasitic)

Leaves yellow and droop during dry periods. Leaves develop large, irregular brown area. Water during periods of moisture stress. Fertilize to keep trees vigorous. If practical, apply foliar antidesiccant to evergreen species in winter.

Powdery mildew (fungus) Powdery, grayish-white patches on leaves and young shoots. Collect and remove fallen leaves. Usually, chemical control is not necessary.

Frost injury (nonparasitic) Flower buds or flowers appear blackened or blighted on species that bloom in early spring. No control possible.
