Euonymus


Anthracnose (fungus) Brown lesions on the leaves, in which tiny fruiting bodies may be seen with a hand lens. Refer to the PDC Fact Sheet "Leaf Spot Diseases of Shade Trees and Ornamentals" for more information. Spray with chlorothalonil,copper fungicides, or thiophanate-methyl.

Euonymus extremely susceptible. Rounded galls with irregular rough surfaces on roots and lower stems. Avoid nursery stock with galls. The disease can be ignored if in the landscape, if plant appearance is acceptable. Nurseries should contact the Extension Plant Disease Clinic for information if it occurs in nursery beds.

Powdery mildew (fungus) Powdery white, moldy patches on leaves. Remove badly affected shoots. Prune to thin out branches. Spray with fungicide when mildew appears. Use sulfur, lime sulfur, triforine or thiophanate-methyl (46.2%).

Scale (insect)

Brown or whitish lumps on twigs, leaf veins or the undersides of leaves. Leaves may have yellow blotches.
