Barry County Soils and Crops Conference Offers Timely Topics Jan. 9 in Cassville

CASSVILLE, MO - The 89th Annual Barry County Soils and Crops Conference begins with supper at 6 p.m. on Jan. 9 at the First Christian Church, 905 Old Exeter Road, Cassville.

Conference topics include mineral supplementation for the beef herd, soybeans and dicamba, preparing for 2017's income taxes, and a panel discussing how to get locally produced beef into your child's school.

"The lineup of speakers for our conference will engage attendees of all aspects of agriculture," said Reagan Bluel, dairy specialist with MU Extension and county program director for Barry County MU Extension.

The panel discussion will focus on the pilot program "MoBeef" in Mt. Vernon. For the past school year, this program has been serving locally produced Lawrence County beef to the Mt. Vernon School district. Panelists will provide information on how to be ready to participate or initiate a similar program in their school district. Panelists will include Mark Russell, MO Beef Council; Jim McCann, MoBeef Coordinator; Shon Bishop, Small farms specialist Lincoln University; and Eric Bailey, MU state beef specialist.

Dinner will feature local caterer John Sullivan. Pre-registration is preferred and can be done by calling the Barry County MU Extension office at (417) 847-3161 or visiting the office on the square in Cassville. Those pre-registered will be charged $5 or a $7 fee at the door.
