MU Extension Pasture Walk Sept. 12
at Turner's Heifer Haven Near Hartville

MTN. GROVE, Mo. — University of Missouri Extension will host a pasture walk starting at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Denis and Lynn Turner's farm (Turner's Heifer Haven), 1231 Hwy 38, Hartville.

The Turners have operated with a lowered number of heifers this grazing season according to MU Extension Dairy Specialist Ted Probert.

"Several adjustments have been made in management to address the lowered stocking rate. There have been changes in grazing management and pressure as well as the addition of some beef heifers in the grazing mix," said Probert.

Denis will discuss the effect these changes have had on the pastures.

For those who will visit the Tuners' operation for the first time, Denis plans to review the goals and objectives of his custom heifer development business.

"He will also discuss basic heifer management protocols in place as well as services provided by Turners Heifer Haven," said Probert.

Denis and Lynn will provide a sandwich lunch starting at 11:00 am. Following the meal, attendees will tour the farm and have a discussion time.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
