Christian County Master Gardeners Offering Free Public Program
June 25 on Growing Day Lilies

OZARK, Mo. - The public is invited to Christian County Master Gardeners' meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 25 at the Central Bank of the Ozarks, Nixa, for a presentation on "How I Grow Day Lilies" by Dr. Gary Jones.

Jones will discuss his lifelong fascination with day lilies, which has included propagating new hybrids. He will talk about planting, fertilizing and successfully growing any of the more than 8,000 varieties of day lilies.

Jones grew up on a registered Jersey dairy farm in Cabool but later moved to Lincoln, Neb., where he taught biology in high school for eight years. After completing dental school, he taught dental anatomy and mandibular joint dysfunction at the University of Nebraska for 10 years. He practiced dentistry for more than 30 years. During these years, he grew many varieties of hostas and day lilies.

Jones is a member of Master Gardeners of Greene County. He has a bachelor's degree in chemistry, a master's degree in biology and a doctorate of dentistry.
