Christian County 4-H Prepares for the County Fair

OZARK, Mo. - Christian County 4-H invites the community to the Christian County Fair on July 6 and 7.

Since the beginning of the 4-H year last October, 4-H youth have been learning with hands-on education about their particular project areas. About 50 youth in Christian County have been preparing several months for the county fair.

"The sewing project meetings have been extremely active this year. I am excited to see what they bring to the fair. I know there are some youth that have been working hard with their goats and heifers. We even have youth in rabbits this year," said University of Missouri Extension 4-H Youth Educator in Christian County, Jennifer Hancock.

The 4-H youth will have 4-H projects on exhibit for the public in the 4-H building at the Finley River Park in Ozark. The 4-H building will be open Friday, July 6 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 7 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

"I encourage anyone who might be interested in joining 4-H to come to the fair and look at the 4-H exhibits. Seeing the vision on what we strive for in 4-H prior to joining can be beneficial. I'll also be there to answer any questions the public might have," said Hancock.

There will also be fun, hands on learning activities in the 4-H building free to the public. Youth and families can learn about Missouri fish, campfire building, cake decorating, arts and crafts and more in the 4-H building.

The 4-H program is open to any youth ages five to 18. Annual enrollment dues for Christian County 4-H are $30. However, any youth with MO HealthNet Managed Care plans, specifically, Missouri Care or Home State Health, health insurance can receive a $20 voucher for 4-H enrollment through their insurance's member services.

Christian County currently has five active 4-H clubs. Missouri 4-H is University of Missouri Extension's youth development program. The 4-H program helps to create opportunities for young people to be valued, contributing members of their community.
