Enroll Now for MU Extension Food Preservation Classes Online

WEST PLAINS, Mo. - University of Missouri Extension is excited to offer a two-part food preservation class throughout Missouri this summer.

The online self-paced course is about eight hours and provides research based information needed to start canning and preserving your own foods at home. Enrollment costs $20 a person.

Anyone with an interest in food preservation and food safety may enroll. All skill levels of food preservation experience are welcome, including individuals with little or no food preservation experience.

Class participants will learn the science behind the various methods of canning, preserving and how to get started with pressure canning, water-bath canning, steam canning, freezing and dehydration, and more.

Most importantly, participants will learn the importance of reducing risks and about all the benefits of taking part in this age-old tradition.

If a participant would like a little more "hands-on" experience once they have finished online they can register to attend a hands-on workshop in a real kitchen with real ingredients to practice the new skills.

This additional hands-on course is $25 and includes supplies. Participants are required to have taken the online course before they enroll in the hands-on class.

Hands-on classes are being offered in Springfield, West Plains and Carthage.

Enroll June 1, 2018 through July 23, 2018 for the online course. To register for the online course visit click "online courses."
