Hill n Hollow Master Gardener
Benefit Plant Sale is May 5 in Neosho

NEOSHO, MO - Members of the Hill n Hollow Master Gardener chapter for McDonald and Newton Counties will host a benefit plant sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 5 at the Newton County Extension office, located across from the Neosho Airport at 18728 Hwy 59, Neosho.

The plant sale allows area Master Gardeners to share plants from their personal gardens with the community while raising money to further the educational mission of the program.

The sale will include shrubs, young trees, bulbs, perennials, vegetables, herbs, annuals, grasses, ground covers, houseplants and other garden-related items.

"There is always an excellent selection of plants to choose from, many of which are often hard to find," said Jennifer Lutes, agriculture business specialist and county program for University of Missouri Extension in McDonald County.

Master Gardeners will be on site to offer suggestions, answer questions, and provide planting tips. Shoppers should plan to arrive early for the best selection.

"These trained volunteers love to share knowledge and spread a passion for gardening all across the community," said Lutes.

Last year, members of Hill n Hollow Master Gardeners contributed more than 1,400 hours volunteering. The group broke ground on a new demonstration garden at the MU Extension office in Neosho last year. The demonstration vegetable garden produced more than 750 pounds of vegetables that were donated to the Help Center in Neosho.

"You can also see the Master Gardeners' work in public gardens, county courthouses, libraries, fairgrounds and many other public buildings throughout McDonald and Newton counties," said Lutes. "This plant sale is a great way to support the group and their efforts."
