Christian County Master Gardeners Hosting
"Gardening 101" Free Seminar Feb. 17 in Nixa

OZARK, Mo. — Beginning gardeners and "never-gardened-before" adults and teens can learn the basics of gardening at a "Gardening 101" seminar hosted by Christian County Master Gardeners from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., Feb. 17, at the Nixa Community Center, 701 N. Taylor Way, Nixa.

The seminar, part of Christian County Master Gardeners's "Garden Gate" educational series, is free but requires registration by calling the University of Missouri Extension office in Ozark at 581-3558.

The seminar will feature the following topics and master gardeners.

  • "What vegetables and when to plant," by Margie Wakefield

  • "What flowers and when to plant," by Colleen McMahan

  • "Where to plant (sun vs. shade, containers vs. raised beds or in ground)," by Patty and Dennis Baker

  • "Tools and where to get them," by David McCurdy

  • "Supplies and where to get them," by Virginia Roberts

  • "Soil testing and enhancements," with Karen Bell

  • "Watering," by Gary Jenks

  • "Weeding," with Debbie Clithero

  • "Pest control," by Jennifer Ailor

Seminar attendees will receive University of Missouri Extension guide sheets and other handouts, as well as information about becoming a Master Gardener. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers in the second half of the seminar.
