Wright County 4-H Shooting Sports Informational Meeting for
Interested Youth Members and Adult Volunteers

MTN GROVE, Mo. - An informational meeting will be held 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Missouri State University Fruit Experiment Station in Mountain Grove for youth and adults interested in the 4-H Shooting Sports project.

As participants in the 4-H shooting sports project, youth learn safe gun handling skills and the sound fundamentals of shooting. This happens under the guidance of caring and knowledgeable adult volunteers.

A 4-H member may only be enrolled in a 4-H shooting sports project if it is led by a certified 4-H shooting sports volunteer. Potential shooting sports volunteers work with Janice Weddle, 4-H youth development specialist with University of Missouri Extension, to become a volunteer and attend the shooting sports certification workshop.

The focus of the Missouri 4-H Shooting Sports program is the total development of the young person. The shooting sports and related natural resource activities are a vehicle for human growth and development. The shooting sports program attracts new audiences as well as enhances the traditional 4-H club program.

As with all Missouri 4-H projects, shooting sports is open to any youth from ages of eight through 18. Wright County 4-H Shooting Sports is seeking adult leaders and youth members for the following disciplines: Archery, Air Rifle/BB Gun, Smallbore Rifle - .22 caliber, Air Pistol, Shotgun (11 years of age and older), Smallbore Pistol (14 and older), Muzzle Loading (11 years of age and older), Hunting & Outdoor Skills, and Western Heritage.

For more information on Wright County 4-H Shooting Sports, contact Janice Weddle, 4-H youth development specialist, at the MU Extension office at (417) 967-4545 or by email at weddlejd@missouri.edu.
