Missouri Blueberry School in Springfield is March 17-18

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Although they are a challenging crop to produce, blueberries are in high demand for many Missouri markets and offer a huge potential for Missouri farmers according to Patrick Byers, horticulture specialist with University of Missouri Extension.

The Missouri Blueberry School is planned for March 17-18 at Missouri State University's Darr School of Agriculture Bond Building, 2401 S. Kansas Expressway, Springfield.

The school will offer educational sessions and a tour of innovative blueberry farms. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bill Cline of North Carolina State University.

"Join local and nationally known blueberry specialists to gain expertise in a wide range of blueberry issues," said Byers.

Speakers will address establishing new blueberry plantings, renovating existing plantings, creative marketing strategies for blueberries, blueberry production practices, and updates on blueberry insect issues (including spotted wing drosophila and brown marmorated stink bug).

Registration for the school costs $80 for the first member of a farm or family and $60 for each additional farm or family. The fee includes Friday educational sessions, a Saturday bus tour and lunch and educational materials.

Established in 2011, the Missouri Blueberry School brings together individuals that have an interest in blueberry production in Missouri and surrounding states. Calling on the expertise of blueberry experts in Missouri and around the country, the Missouri Blueberry School presents information that is accurate, updated and relevant. The Missouri Blueberry School is a collaboration of University of Missouri, Missouri State University, and Lincoln University.
