87th Annual Stone County Livestock and
Forage Conference is Feb. 16 in Crane
GALENA, Mo. - The 87th Annual Stone County Livestock and Forage Conference will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 at the Crane First Baptist Church, located 2/10 mile south of Crane on Hwy 413.
There is a small fee to attend and participants need to preregister by Feb. 13 to reserve their meal. Call 417-357-6812 for information or send payment to Stone County Extension Center, P.O. Box 345, Galena.
"This long-running conference will continue to equip livestock producers to better manage their operations and provide quality beef products for consumers," according to Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension Agronomy Specialist based in Galena.
The program will focus this year will feature three main speakers.
Dr. Kevin Bradley, state weed science specialist from Columbia, will discuss his research on how to fine-tune weed and brush issues in pastures.
Eldon Cole, regional livestock specialist, will discuss what the steer feedout program has taught us about our Missouri calf crop.
Tim Schnakenberg, regional agronomy specialist, will address how Bermudagrass could be a game-changer in hayfields and pastures.
This annual extension program has its roots in the county since 1931 and is provided by the Stone County MU Extension Center. This popular event marks its 87th year in Stone County.
The ribeye steak sandwich meal will be provided courtesy of the Southwest Missouri Cattlemen's Association, Community National Bank, Joplin Regional Stockyards, Old Missouri Bank, First Home Bank, Hamilton Ford, Stone Co Soil and Water Conservation District, Nixa Hardware and Seed and V-Mar Farm Store.
