"Feel Better Now" Course in
Marshfield Beginning Feb. 15

MARSHFIELD, Mo. — A series of classes entitled "Feel Better Now" will begin Feb. 15 at the University of Missouri Extension office, 800 S. Marshall St., Marshfield. The classes will meet weekly from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays, Feb. 15 to March 22.

The classes are free, but individuals must register by calling 417-888-6787.

The program — sponsored by University of Missouri Extension, CoxHealth and Mercy Health Systems — is an effective self-management education program for people with chronic health problems.

"The program specifically addresses arthritis, diabetes, lung and heart disease, but teaches skills useful for managing a variety of chronic diseases," said Dr. Pam Duitsman, a nutrition and health education specialist with University of Missouri Extension.

The classes help participants achieve health related goals. These goals include how to live a healthy life with a chronic condition; how to manage pain, fatigue and stress more effectively; how to deal with anger, fear, frustration, and depression; understanding the role of exercise and nutrition in chronic disease management; and how to form an effective partnership with your health-care team.

Past participants have shared that, after the course, they are more confident and able to take care of their chronic condition; and have more independence and ability to carry-out daily activities.

"The vast majority of participants report an improvement in their physical symptoms (i.e. pain, stiffness, etc.) caused by their chronic condition," said Duitsman.

MU Extension programs focus on the high-priority needs of Missourians to improve lives, communities and economies by providing relevant, responsive and reliable educational solutions. Each county extension center, with oversight by locally elected and appointed citizens, is your local link to practical education on almost anything.
