PORTER, FROM THE AVA FFA CHAPTER, RECOGNIZED AS AREA 12 STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association named Nathan Porter, a member of the Ava FFA Chapter, as Area 12 Star in Agribusiness at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Jody and Peggy Porter of Ava, Mo. His advisors are Brent Lakey and Andy Cook.

Area Star in Agribusiness is based on outstanding agribusiness activities as part of the student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and FFA leadership activities. Area 12 covers 19 chapters in the Southwest District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the Area Star in Agribusiness awards.

Porter’s SAE program began when he received two mixed-breed heifers from his Grandpa. His two heifers, now cows, have produced five calves, which he has sold.

Porter has participated in many chapter activities. He is the chapter secretary. He has attended National FFA Convention for four years. He also has been Washington Leadership Conference and State FFA Convention, where he served as a delegate. He has been to State FFA Camp twice and has received the State FFA Camp Leadership Medal.

Porter is president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has been a member for four years. He also has been a member of Spanish club, chamber choir, and trend and pep club. He has been a life-long member of Ava General Baptist Church.

Porter plans to study elementary education at College of the Ozarks. He also plans to pursue a degree in physical therapy at Missouri State University.

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
