Grimes from Stewartsville FFA Chapter named Area 1 Star in Placement

JEFFERSON CITY Mo., April 24, 2020 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Kylee Elanie Grimes of the Stewartsville FFA Chapter as the Area 1 Star in Placement. Grimes is the daughter of Jerald and Karen Grimes of Osborn. Her advisor is Tom Thompson.


Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as a part of a studentís supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 1 includes 29 chapters in the Northwest District.


MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Placement awards and the State Star in Placement Award.


Grimesí SAE program began when she started working on Grimes Farm, Inc., a diversified agricultural operation growing corn and soybeans, and raising cattle. Her day-to-day duties consist of feeding hay and grain to the cattle; as well as feeding the cats, dogs and chickens. She helps with general maintenance of equipment. During the summer, Grimes helps with raking,† baling and storing hay for winter usage.


Grimes served as chapter historian, vice president and secretary. She competed on the state level in livestock evaluation, soils, and agronomy career development events. Grimes was winner of the area vegetable production proficiency award. She was named Chapter Star Greenhand and Chapter Star Agribusiness. She has attended Washington Leadership Conference, National FFA Convention & Expo, and Greenhand Motivational Conference.


In addition to FFA, Grimes has been a member of student council and National Honor Society. She also participated in varsity cross country and varsity basketball.


After graduating high school, Grimesí plans include studying nursing at Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph. Grimes said her goal is to care for patients in neonatal intensive care at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.


The Missouri FFA has 25,945 members representing 348 chapters. The national organization has more than 700,000 members representing 8,612 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
