JENNY HOBBS RECEIVES SECOND PLACE IN THE 2009 MISSOURI FFA FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENCY AWARD

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16,2009– Jenny Hobbs, of the Jamesport FFA Chapter, Jamesport, Mo., was named second place of the FFA Food Science Technology Proficiency Award at the 81^st Missouri FFA Convention.

Hobbs is the daughter of John and Kelvina Hobbs. Her FFA advisor is Amy Holder.

While in FFA, Hobbs has participated in the state and local activities along with attending State FFA Convention. She is currently serving as chapter Secretary. Hobbs has competed at the state level in Dairy Cattle Judging Career Development Event.

Hobbs ’ Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program began the summer of her freshman year helping her FCCLA instructor cook over 60 meals a day for summer school students. There she learned proper kitchen handling and food sanitation. Hobbs began serving breakfast meals at her school. Through her SAE, Hobbs has learned the importance of food science.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Food Science and Technology is one of 47 proficiency awards given at the state level. This award was sponsored by the Missouri FFA Association.

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
