Only 10 percent of state chapters receive the Top Chapter Award each year. Chapter activity awards, sponsored by FCS Financial, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. Jamesport FFA Chapter advisor is Amy Sullivan-Holder. The Jamesport FFA student development activities included the Missouri State FFA convention. Members who attended the convention were able to increase their leadership skills through participating in career development events, proficiency award competition, star state award interviews, as well as attending career show and leadership workshops. Chapter development activities are designed to promote excellence within the chapter. “Farm Safety Day” allowed Carthage FFA members to recruit non-agriculture students. Students were able to participate in hands-on experiences using equipment, learning about tractors, as well as public speaking skills all FFA members develop. Jamesport’s community development activities included a fair barbeque. During the local fair, members hosted a barbeque for the community. Years of community tradition as well as a quality meal helped draw hundreds of costumers. The meal has become a center piece of the local fair, and funds raised from the event will be used to pay for the next year’s fair and meal. The top chapters are submitted to the National FFA Organization where they compete for the National FFA Chapter Award. The competition will be this fall at the National FFA convention in Indianapolis, Ind. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands . The FFA Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. -END- CAA-30-Jamesport-RH
