BORGMANN, FROM THE STEELVILLE FFA CHAPTER, RECOGNIZED AS AREA 14 STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association named Emily Borgmann, a member of the Steelville FFA Chapter, as Area 14 Star in Agribusiness at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Her parents are Rick and Sharon Borgmann of Owensville, Mo. Her advisors are Rick Borgmann and Jamie Gross. Area Star in Agribusiness is based on outstanding agribusiness activities as part of the student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and FFA leadership activities. Area 14 covers 19 chapters in the South Central District. MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the Area Star in Agribusiness awards. Porter’s SAE program began with one rabbit. She now has more than 200. She also started a landscaping and turfgrass business to help finance her SAE. Borgmann served as Greenhand president and chapter reporter, secretary and president. She has competed in the poultry, horse and FFA knowledge career development events. In 2008, Borgmann received the second-place State FFA Landscape Management Proficiency Award. She has attended the National FFA Convention for three years and has served on the National FFA Convention Courtesy Corps. She has attended State FFA Camp twice and received the State FFA Camp Leadership Medal both years. Borgmann also has exhibited at the Missouri State Fair. For four years, Borgmann has been a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders; math club; science club and SYC Trend Club. She also has been a member of art club, the track team and the cross-country team. She has been on the honor roll and the principal's honor roll. Borgmann plans to attend East Central College for two years. Upon graduation, she will continue her education in nursing or agricultural education. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
