Troy Sloan state winner 2009 Missouri FFA Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship

 

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Troy Sloan, of the Cameron FFA Chapter, Cameron, Mo., was named the state winner of the FFA Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Sloan is a senior at Cameron R-1 high school. He is the son of Scott and Tonya Sloan. His FFA advisors are Ron Alden and Carmen Buller.

 

Sloan’s Supervised Agricultural Experience program consists of raising show pigs. He currently has 24 females and one male. Sloan advertises his show pigs online and in magazines and uses other sales techniques. He has sold show pigs across and area of 17 states. His future plans are to increase his number of customers.

 

As an FFA member Sloan has attended both state and national conventions. He also won the state FFA leadership medal in 2006. Outside of FFA, he is on the Cameron high school basketball team and a member of the Missouri Swine Association.

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship is one of 47 proficiencies awarded at the state level. The FFA Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award is sponsored by Midwest Seed Genetics in Laddonia, Mo., and the Missouri FFA Association.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
