SCOTT, FROM THE CAMERON FFA CHAPTER, RECOGNIZED AS AREA 2 STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS

 

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association named Hollie A. Scott of Maysville, Mo., a member of the Cameron FFA Chapter, as Area 2 Star in Agribusiness at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Her parents are Michael and Adrienne Scott. Her advisors are Carmen Buller and Ron Alden.

 

Area Star in Agribusiness is based on outstanding agribusiness activities as part of the student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and FFA leadership activities. Area 2 covers 25 chapters in the Northwest District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the Area Star in Agribusiness awards.

 

Scott’s SAE program began with showing dogs, which led to working as an assistant for professional dog handlers. Then she started her own boarding and grooming business for pets, Grand Paws. She sold Grand Paws and started working for a canine DNA lab and the intensive care unit in the University of Missouri Veterinary Medicine Hospital .

 

Scott served as chapter vice president, secretary and reporter. She received the 2006 National Top 10 Agri-Entrepreneurship Award. She also placed second in Missouri for small animal production and care entrepreneurship and placement and small animal placement proficiency awards. She has competed in state poultry, meats, and floriculture career development events and received a Group 1 individual rating in the poultry event. She has attended State FFA Leadership Camp, Washington Leadership Conference, STEP and New Frontiers.

 

Scott was a member of student council, National Honor Society, Beta Chi Pi and DECA in High School. She also was on the varsity soccer, tennis and softball teams. In college, she is a member of MU Block and Bridle and Pre-Veterinary Medicine Club.

 

Scott is studying animal science at MU and has recently applied to veterinary school. After college, Scott plans to run a general practice veterinarian clinic in her rural community.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
