COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Alexis Jennings, a member of the Ozark FFA Chapter, as Area 12 Star Farmer at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. She is the daughter of Rebecca Jennings of Ozark, Mo. Her advisors are Heath Wright and Travis Phipps.

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture for the student’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 12 covers 19 chapters in the Southwest District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star Farmer awards.

Jennings' SAE program began with a Missouri Fox Trotter show horse, an American Quarter Horse stallion and two beef cattle. After four years in FFA, her herd has expanded to more than 20 beef cattle. She also has six horses. She is acting as barn manager at Jennings Stables. She also works at the Hard Times Spread Ranch in Ozark and the Ozark Veterinary Clinic.

Jennings served as chapter sentinel, chapter vice president and chapter president. She has competed at the state level in the livestock and horse evaluation career development events. Jennings was the Area 12 FFA Agricultural Education Proficiency Award winner her junior year. She has attended National FFA Convention. She also has helped get an introductory FFA program started at the Ozark Jr. High.

Jennings has been a member of Foreign Language Club as well as an active member in the Ozark choir department. She was a section leader in Ozark Choir as well.

After graduation, Jennings plans to study animal science and agribusiness at Missouri State University. She hopes to attend veterinary school at the University of Missouri and plans to own her own veterinary practice, animal shelter and stable.

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
