J.R. Simpkins Receives Second Place 2009 Missouri FFA Agricultural Services Proficiency Award COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – J.R. Simpkins, of the Stockton FFA Chapter, Stockton, Mo., received second place Agricultural Services Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri State FFA Convention. Simpkins, a senior, is the son of James and Pam Simpkins. His advisors are John Rummel and Jim Phillips. As a FFA member, Simpkins has attended all state and national activities. Simpkins placed in the 2006 Individual National FFA Dairy Foods CDE, 2008 Individual State Agronomy CDE, 2007 Individual State Forestry CDE, 2006 Individual State Dairy Foods CDE and 2006 – 2007 State FFA Convention Delegate. Simpkins’s Supervised Agricultural Experience started when he became attracted to combining fescue seed his freshman year. He closely monitors his field conditions and checks for moisture content of the seeds. He plans to harvest his 40 acres of wheat next summer. Simpkins plans to attend college and pursue a degree in the agricultural department. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Agricultural Services is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at the state level. The Missouri FFA Association sponsors this award. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
