Stockton FFA Member is Top Individual in State Nursery/Landscaping Event COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 17, 2009 – Stockton FFA member Ryan Meeks placed first out of 148 individuals in the FFA Nursery/Landscaping Career Development Event at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. The 148 participants represented 40 teams in the competition. Crader Distributing Co. – BME STHIL awards scholarships to the top four individuals in the Nursery/Landscaping CDE. Meeks’ teammates were Page Martin, Megan Huebner and Jess Hickman. The Stockton FFA advisors are James Phillips and John Rummel. Individuals in this event are scored on their knowledge of production, marketing, utilization and culture of landscape plants. Students use the information they learn in their horticulture and landscape design classes. Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this contest is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career development events engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
