Jessica Hickman from Stockton Named Area 10 Star in Placement

 

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Jessica Hickman of the Stockton FFA Chapter as the Area 10 Star in Placement at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. She is the daughter of Brad and Eva Hickman of Stockton, MO. Her advisors are John Rummel and Jim Phillips.

 

Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agriculture business as part of a student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 10 covers 22 chapters in the South Central District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star in Placement awards.

 

Hickman’s Supervised Agricultural Experience program began as a freshman when she started working for Vicker’s Farms, and it continues today. She works with the farms cattle and hay enterprises in all aspects. As a junior she accepted a position with Woods Supermarket in Stockton . Hickman has worked in several areas including produce, stocking, flowers and plants and as a cashier.

 

Hickman has served as the Stockton FFA assistant historian, historian and is currently the vice president. She has been a member of the greenhand knowledge, floriculture and meat teams. She was named star in chapter placement in 2008 and has received numerous awards in the chapter level.

Hickman has been nominated by high school faculty to receive the Student of the Month award in 2007 and 2008. She has been an active member of the Humansville Bible Church . She is also a member of the Stockton FBLA and the Student Awards group.

 

After high school graduation Hickman plans to continue working for Woods Supermarket and Vickers Farms. She plans on attending Missouri State University to pursue a degree in Agriculture Business.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
