MORELAND FROM THE CASS CAREER CENTER FFA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED AS AREA 7 STAR FARMER COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Taylor Moreland of the Cass Career Center FFA Chapter as Area 7 Star Farmer at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. He is the son of Michael and Heather Moreland of Harrisonville, Mo. His advisors are Jason Dieckhoff and Clint Johnson. Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture for the student’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 7 covers 20 chapters in the Central District. MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star Farmer awards. Moreland’s SAE program began with two registered Holstein cows; he has expanded his herd to eight cows. Moreland has begun buying, raising and selling Angus steers. He also works on the family dairy farm. Moreland’s FFA activities include serving as chapter vice president and chapter president. He has competed in the dairy cattle, agriculture mechanics and meats judging career development events. Moreland was the Area 7 FFA Dairy Production-Placement Proficiency Award winner. He has attended the National FFA Convention. He also was a member of the Missouri Agribusiness Academy . Moreland is a member of the National Honor Society. He was a first-team All-State lineman in Class 4 football and a captain on the Harrisonville wrestling team. Moreland is a West Central Regional Representative on the University of Missouri Extension 4-H State Council and president of the Cass County 4-H Council. Moreland plans to study agribusiness management at the University of Missouri . Moreland hopes to return to a rural community and work in the agriculture industry. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
