Grier of the East Buchanan FFA Chapter named Area 1 Star in Placement

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Christopher Grier, of the East Buchanan FFA Chapter, as the Area 1 Star in Placement at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Grier is the son of Art and Darby Grier of Stewartsville, Mo. The East Buchanan FFA advisors are Chuck Wilson and Chase Holcumbrink.

 

Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as part of a student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 1 covers 26 chapters in the Northwest District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star in Placement Awards.

 

Grier’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program (SAE) began by working on his grandmother’s farm with his Dad, uncle and grandfather. His SAE involved the families two hundred head of dairy cattle and approximately eight hundred acres of crop land. Grier also obtained a loan and was able to purchase and successfully raise three Black Angus cow-calf pairs. He has also increased his sweet corn crop from one to three acres.

 

After high school, Grier plans to study John Deere Technology at Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska . He also is looking forward to playing a continuing vital role in the family farm.

 

Grier has also enjoyed attending construction class at Hillyards Technical Center . He has also participated in football and baseball.

 

Grier has been an active FFA member for four years. He has participated in the dairy cattle judging career development event and the trapshooting team.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
