Gibson Wins Missouri FFA Oil and Fiber Crop Production Proficiency Award

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Jeffrey Gibson, of the East Buchanan FFA Chapter, Gower, Mo., was named the state winner of the Oil and Fiber Crop Production Proficiency Award at the 81st Annual Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Gibson, a senior at East Buchanan C-1 High School, is the son of Jim and Donna Gibson. His FFA advisors are Chuck Wilson and Chase Holcumbrink.

 

Gibson attended state-wide activities such as State FFA Convention, greenhand motivational conference, and he was a state fair exhibitor.

 

Gibson’s Supervised Agricultural Experience began when he learned how to plant, harvest, and sell soybeans with his grandfather’s help. He was able to rent his own 10 acres for his soybean production.

 

Gibson plans to attend Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and eventually return to the family farm to continue selling and growing soybeans.

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Oil and Fiber Crop Production is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at state level. The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council sponsors this award.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
