ANGELL FROM THE CENTRALIA FFA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED AS STATE STAR FARMER

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Sierra Angell of the Centralia FFA Chapter as State Star Farmer at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. She is the daughter of Justin and Sally Angell of Centralia, Mo. Her advisors are Lori Lewis and Scott Stone.

 

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture for the student’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 4 covers 19 chapters in the Northeast District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star Farmer awards.

 

Angell’s SAE began when she purchased 80 bred heifers to resell as cow-calf pairs. Since then, she has purchased 12 Red Angus heifers and 76 Angus heifers with her father to resell. Sierra also finishes several Charolais-Red Angus steers each year; she shows one at the county fair. Sierra invests her profits to help save money for college.

 

Angell’s FFA activities include serving as chapter vice president and chapter co-president. She placed 12th individually in the 2008 State FFA Agricultural Sales Career Development Event. Angell received the chapter beef production proficiency award in 2006 and 2007. She also was selected for the 2007 Missouri Agribusiness Academy .

 

Some of Angell’s school activities includes cross country, track and basketball. Angell qualified for state cross country in 2005 and 2006. Angell is a member of the National Honor Society and she is on the A-honor roll.

 

Angell plans to attend the University of Missouri to pursue a degree in agriculture business. She also is considering a minor in journalism. After college, Angell would like to be an agricultural promotions and sales director.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
