WILMES, FROM THE WEST NODAWAY FFA CHAPTER, RECOGNIZED AS AREA 1 STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association named Clint Wilmes of Burlington Junction, Mo., a member of the West Nodaway FFA Chapter, as Area 1 Star in Agribusiness at the 81th Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Ken and Donna Wilmes. His advisor is Ken Wilmes.

 

Area Star in Agribusiness is based on outstanding agribusiness activities as part of the student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and FFA leadership activities. Area 1 covers 26 chapters in the Northwest District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the Area Star in Agribusiness awards.

 

Wilmes’ SAE program consists of mowing lawns. His second year, he purchased a larger lawn mower to enable him to mow more lawns. In addition, he has gathered and sold walnuts to the local cooperative. He also raises cattle, finishes hogs and works at a gas station as a part of part of his SAE.

 

Wiles is Area 1 second vice president and chapter president. He also has served as chapter vice president and secretary. He has competed at the state level in livestock judging, parliamentary procedure, entomology and agronomy career development events. He has won turf grass management and diversified livestock production proficiency awards at the area level. He has been selected as chapter Star Greenhand and chapter Star Farmer.

 

Wilmes has been a member of FFA; Future Business Leaders of America; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America ; Future Teachers of America; National Honor Society; and Academic Bowl Team. He also is the National Honor Society vice president.

 

After high school graduation, Wiles plans to study agricultural engineering at a four-year university.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
