STOKES FROM THE NORWOOD FFA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED AS AREA 13 STAR FARMER COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Jessica Stokes of the Norwood FFA Chapter as Area 13 Star Farmer at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. She is the daughter of David and Mary Stokes of Macomb, Mo. Her advisor is Christopher Sinning. Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture for the student’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 13 covers 22 chapters in the South Central District. MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star Farmer awards. Stokes’ SAE program began with five crossbred ewes and two horses. She has expanded to 21 breeding sheep and two horses, which she has shown at local fairs and the Missouri State Fair. She continues to work to improve her flock, which has grown to 36 breeding ewes. She participates with her horses at local and area shows, where she has won multiple awards during the past four years. Stokes has served as the chapter reporter, secretary and vice president. She has participated in creed speaking, parliamentary procedure and horse evaluation career development events. She has won awards with her record book and public speaking. She also has participated in National FFA Band. Stokes has been an active member in National Honor Society, band, academic team, drama club, choir, color guard, student council and class officers. She also has participated in District Honor Band, state solo and ensemble, and several other band and music competitions. Stokes plans to study chemistry and music at the University of Missouri . She plans to work as a research or diagnostic chemist. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands . The FFA Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. -END-
