Missouri FFA News Releases

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 17, 2009 – The Marshfield FFA Chapter placed third in the Dairy Foods Career Development Event at the 81^st Missouri FFA Convention. There were 45 teams in the competition.

The winning team members are Anna Glenn, Leslie Hutton, Mathew Lockhart and Karisa Lorenz. Lorenz received sixth, Hutton received 14^th, Lockhart received 17^th and Glenn received 25^th out of 174 individuals. The Marshfield FFA advisors are Bill Roberts and Kyle Whittaker.

The participants in the competition taste-test milk samples for flavor, identify 14 different types of cheeses and use a scoring system to test milk products according to USDA standards. The hands-on portion of the event is combined with an intensive written examination. Competitors use lessons they learn in the classroom to excel in the challenging competition.

Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this contest is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career development events engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
