Northeast Vernon Co. Dairy Foods Team Places Second at State
COLUMBIA, Mo., April 17, 2009 – The Northeast Vernon Co. FFA Chapter received second place at the Dairy Foods Career Development Event during the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. There were 45 teams in the competition.
The winning team members are Crystal Bogardus, Spencer Hoagland, Cody Stewart and Tanner Stutzman. Hoagland received fourth and Bogardus received fifth out of 174 individuals. The Northwest Vernon Co. FFA advisor is Chris Dryer.
The participants in the competition taste-test milk samples for flavor, identify 14 different types of cheeses and use a scoring system to test milk products according to USDA standards. The hands-on portion of the event is combined with an intensive written examination. Competitors use lessons they learn in the classroom to excel in the challenging competition.
Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this contest is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career development events engage student learning and make a real life connection to lifetime goals.
