Forgeproduction-utterback-3823-cs Photo available at: http://agebb.missouri.edu/news/moffaconv/ProfWin/pics/IMG_3823.JPG Utterback Placed Second in Forage Production Entrepreneurship and Placement Proficiency Award at Missouri State FFA Convention COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Brian Utterback, of the South Shelby FFA Chapter, Shelbina, Mo., was named the second place winner of the FFA Forage Production Entrepreneurship and Placement Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri State FFA Convention. Utterback, a senior at South Shelby High School, is the son of Larry and Jayna Utterback. His advisor is Tim Larrick. Utterback has been active in FFA on the chapter, district, state and national levels. He has attended national and state FFA conventions as well as State FFA Leadership Camp. Utterback received his State FFA Degree in 2008, and he also has received state proficiency awards in Dairy Placement and Grain Production Placement. Outside of FFA, he is a member of the First Baptist Church and participated in the Show Me State Games in Trapshooting. Utterback has worked in conjunction with his family’s dairy farm for forage production. Utterback learned how to mow, rake, and bale hay on his family’s farm. Utterback’s future plans including attending college at Linn State Technical College and majoring in Construction and Civil Technology. Someday he plans to come back to his family farm and possibly work at MODOT. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Forage Production is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at the state level. This award was sponsored by Northcutt Financial Services. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands . The FFA Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
