Lauren Weiker of the Slater FFA Chapter is Named State FFA Secretary

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Lauren Weiker of Slater, Mo., and Area 6 has been selected as the 2009-2010 State FFA Secretary. She is a senior at Slater High School and a member of the Slater FFA Chapter. Her advisor is Zach Crews.

 

 Weiker’s FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE) consists of working as a Red Cross certified lifeguard, raising and marketing pumpkins, running her own catering business and working for Smith Food Bank helping to cater weddings and parties.

 

Weiker is the president for the Slater FFA Chapter and has served as the chapter reporter and secretary. She is also the president for the Area 6 FFA Association and previously served as the treasurer. Weiker has participated in the Missouri State FFA Public Speaking Career Development Event (CDE). She placed third in the Missouri Farm Bureau speech contest. She was on the State FFA Farm Business Management and Meats Evaluation CDEs. 

 

Weiker has received proficiency awards in Ag Sales Entrepreneurship and Ag Education. She also has received the Star Greenhand award, Star Agribusinessman, state leadership medals and was a participant in the 2007 Missouri Agribusiness Academy.

 

Weiker is the secretary of National Honor Society and class president. She also plays varsity basketball and is a football cheerleading captain. Weiker is a three-time Show-Me State Powerlifting Champion. She also is a member of Slater Christian Church.

 

Weiker plans to attend the University of Missouri studying Hotel and Restaurant Management.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters.  The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands .
