GETTLE FROM THE PLEASANT HOPE FFA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED AS AREA 10 STAR FARMER COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Ryan Gettle of the Pleasant Hope FFA Chapter as Area 10 Star Farmer at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. He is the son of Chuck and Dianne Gettle, Mo. His advisors are Jeff Voris and Mary Anne Keck. Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture for the student’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 10 covers 22 chapters in the Southwest District. MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star Farmer awards. Gettle's SAE program began with his purchase of Moon Valley Farms and 20 registered Jersey cows. He has now expanded the operation to 140 cows. Gettle also is an active and successful cattle showman. Gettle has served as an active member of the Pleasant Hope FFA Chapter. He has qualified for state in both dairy and agricultural mechanics career development events. He received the Area 10 FFA Diversified Agriculture Production Proficiency Award and the Area 10 FFA Diversified Livestock Production Proficiency Award. Gettle has played baseball for Pleasant Hope for the past four years. He is a member of the Missouri Jersey Association, American Jersey Association and the Dairy Farmers of America. After high school, Gettle plans to continue expanding and improving his dairy. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
